Hello my lovelies,
There are so many ways to say Yes and No and I thought let me create artwork with different styles of saying those words, using my favourite Neon colours. I created for you 4 variations of this artwork and you can see on the merchandise how amazing those designs look like. Let's begin…
Most of the supplies from this tutorial are from HERE and if you purchase through this link, I will receive 5% commissions. I am using colourful markers as well and if you can’t find exactly the same ones, you can purchase something similar.
Variation 1 - Small Dialogue Boxes
1) Take a piece of paper with squares. It will be easiest to draw designs that require equivalent sides. My piece of paper is 10x10cm or 4x4 inch.
2) Draw this kind of rectangle with rounded corners.
3) Next add a small triangle at the bottom.
4) Next, draw “shadow” by repeating this shape slightly further, in my case it's towards the right side.
5) Take black permanent Sharpie, 0.8-1.0 in size and outline this design.
6) Next, you will need a “Light Box” or you can use a window in your house with sunlight. However, for this particular tutorial “Light Box” will be a perfect companion. You will need a piece of A4 draft paper as well.
7) Make 2-3 copies of your small dialogue boxes and place them on the paper in different directions.
8) Here is how I placed mine.
9) Next, I opened Google and searched for different styles of saying “Yes” and “No”. I chose a few different variations and I wrote them on a piece of paper.
10) Next, I wrote these words inside each dialogue box.
11) I’ve added letters “Y” and “N” in between as well as a few round shapes. I outlined everything with a permanent Black Sharpie and this is going to be my draft which I can use for other projects.
12) I took a high quality A4 sized piece of Art paper and transferred this design, using “Light Box”.
13) Next, you can draw words inside dialogue boxes either from the beginning and later with neon colours on the top. Or you can paint first with neon colours and then draw words with permanent black Sharpie. For this design I’ve decided to write words first with permanent black Sharpie. It is important that you use a permanent marker, otherwise your words can smudge later after applying neon colours.
14) I will be using these neon acrylic colours. I also will be using black permanent Sharpies, 08-1.0 in size.
15) First, I paint with yellow.
16) Next, I paint with red.
17) Next is Green.
18) and Purple.
19) and then Blue.
20) And the last colour is Orange.
21) Next, I took black Sharpie and outlined everything. I also added some lines here and there, to highlight design overall. This is the final result.
22) And this is another variation of the draft, but I’ve decided not to use it for this design.
Variation 2 - 2 Large Dialogue Boxes.
1) Take a draft piece of paper, A4 in size.
2) Follow measurements on the picture and draw a large dialogue box. Cut it out with scissors.
3) Next, move this dialogue box on the new piece of A4 draft paper.
4) You will have this kind of repeated dialogue boxes.
5) Next, outline everything with the black Sharpie.
6) Repeat this design on the bottom part of the draft page. You will have 2 large dialogue boxes on the A4 size draft paper.
7) Next, draw “Yup” in the top dialogue box. And “Nope” in the bottom dialogue box. I added lines on the “shadow” part of the dialogue boxes and small round shapes.
8) Next, I transferred this design onto quality A4 art paper using pencil.
9) I will be using these neon acrylic colours. And these permanent markers.
10) I drew the first orange neon acrylic colour.
11) And red on the bottom.
12) Next, I added blue and purple colours.
13) and blue with purple on the top dialogue box.
14) I painted with yellow neon acrylic paint on top of the dialogue box, and neon green on the bottom.
15) Next, I will be using these acrylic paints, called “High Flow Acrylics”. Unscrew cover slightly and practice on the separate piece of draft paper. You can control flow of the paint by unscrewing either very slightly to get thin lines or slightly more, to get thicker lines. Just practice first till you get the desired flow of the paint.
16) Here I used dark blue for the top dialogue box and yellow for bottom dialogue box.
17) Next I will be using these markers for outlining the word “Yup”.
18) I will be using these markers to outline the word “Nope”.
19) Next, I outlined everything with black permanent sharpie and I’ve added some lines and dots onto both designs. I also used white permanent marker to add some dots onto the background of the dialogue boxes. This is the final result.
Variation 3 - Single Dialogue Box.
1) I decided to create just a single dialogue box and we will be using a different painting technique which is called “shading”.
2) Using the same dialogue box from the previous tutorial, transfer this design onto a separate piece of draft paper and draw inside different variations of words “Yes” and “No”.
3) Transfer this design onto quality A4 art paper, using pencil.
4) I will be using the same neon colours like in the first tutorial. Paint with neon orange half of the “Shade” part of the dialogue box.
5) And the other part is painted with dark pink neon colour.
6) Next, I use yellow neon paint for the inside part of the top part of the dialogue box. And I used green neon paint for the outer part, it created “shading”.
7) Next, I used Green and Orange permanent markers for the words inside the dialogue box. I also used black and white permanent markers to add some decorative details onto the dialogue box. This is the final design.
Variation 4 - Variations of “Yes” and “No” words.
I decided to create just words, without dialogue boxes because it will look great just as it is.
1) I took A4 piece of draft paper and I drew horizontal lines 4cm apart. Total I’ve got 7 lines. I draw variations of the words “Yes” and “No” on each line. I outlined everything with black sharpie. Next, I transferred this design onto quality art paper, using pencil.
2) I will be using these acrylic paints, and these permanent markers.
3) It is best to practice first on a separate piece of draft paper. Once you get comfortable with these colours, draw some words with yellow colour.
4) Next is light turquoise.
5) Red…
6) and Blue.
7) And finally dark green.
8) Next, I will use these colours of permanent markers to outline yellow words.
9) I will use these colours to outline Red words.
10) I will use these colours to outline light green (or turquoise) words.
11) And I will use these colours to outline blue words.
12) I will use these colours to outline dark green words.
13) And finally, I’ve added onto darker coloured word decorations, using white permanent markers. And on the lighter coloured words I’ve added designs, using black sharpie. I also added a few rounded spiral-like shapes between the words. This is the final result.
Because I want to use all 4 designs on my Merchandise and Stationeries, I sent all 4 drawings to the designer on Fiverr and I asked him to separate some elements and also combine some as well. He did a very good job and I applied these designs onto my clothing and stationeries. They are available for purchase at my POD stores. This is the final results:
These are some of the Canvases with this artwork.
These are some mugs using this artwork.
These are some Notebooks and planners, using this artwork.
Thank you for being with me this far. I hope you like it!
With love,
Marina.
